Alan Karp
Partner

Alan practices in the areas of general and commercial litigation, insolvency, banking and finance litigation, building and construction, and trade practices.

Alan draws on his experience as a barrister in South Africa where he conducted numerous trials as counsel, as well as on his many years as a solicitor in Western Australia, where he has acted as instructing solicitor in several significant trials in the Supreme Court and in the Federal Court on behalf of a wide range of clients, including banks and large, medium and small international and national corporations and individuals.

Alan holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees, as well as a Master of Laws degree.

Alan’s passion for law extends to his passion for life, which is evident from his love of travel, his penchant for art and antiques and his relationship with family and friends.

James Steedman
Partner

James advises and represents public and private companies, financial institutions, charitable institutions, businesses of varying sizes and individuals, in all aspects of litigation. James’ expertise is derived from his extensive experience in conducting a wide range of general and commercial litigation matters involving contractual disputes, corporate insolvency and bankruptcy, banking and finance matters, building and construction disputes, trade practices matters, contentious probate and inheritance matters, and property law.

With significant experience in estate and inheritance matters, James is regularly involved in estate planning and the drafting of wills.

James has also practised in the areas of employer liability, strata titles, defamation and intellectual property law (which has included copyright and trade mark issues), and regularly receives referrals from other firms and members of the Independent Bar.

James holds a Bachelor of Business degree from Curtin University and obtained his legal qualification by completing a 5 year articled clerkship. He has a broad knowledge and many interests in diverse fields outside of the law which compliment his understanding of his clients’ needs and requirements.

Outside of work, James is a keen scuba diver and enjoys open water swimming. He also has two young and very active sons.

Eric Ross-Adjie
Partner

Eric practises in the areas of banking and finance, commercial property, general commercial, corporate, franchising and licensing law. Eric holds Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Western Australia.

Eric maintains a strong emphasis on endeavoring to resolve commercial disputes by means of alternative dispute resolution. He is an Associate Member of and an accredited Mediator with The Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia.

His clients include prominent financial institutions, property developers, national and international corporations, charitable institutions and medium to small businesses.

Eric also devotes time and energy to the Anglican Diocese of Perth as a Trustee and Deputy Chancellor.

lorraine madden - Senior Associate Lorraine Madden - Senior Associate

Lorraine offers her clients extensive commercial litigation and advocacy experience, having practiced both in Sydney and London before moving to Perth in 2000.

Lorraine's areas of expertise include: insurance litigation, occupational health & safety legislation, planning disputes and deceased estates. Her knowledge and experience has been used to successfully act for large corporations, and individuals in a diverse range of professions including law, medicine, insurance, accounting, engineering, and construction. Having practiced in the area of insurance litigation for many years, Lorraine is well placed to advise clients on policy issues.

Currently at KSRA, Lorraine is involved in a number of commercial disputes in Federal, Supreme and District Courts; as well as advising on matters relating to deceased estates, and defending prosecutions for breaches of occupational health and safety legislation and planning legislation.

Lorraine's love of animals sees her being actively involved with the RSPCA and other animal welfare groups. She regularly puts her skills to good use as the Western Australian pro-bono co-ordinator for the RSPCA.

In her spare time Lorraine likes to combine activity and nature, bushwalking and scuba diving in the region's South West

Maria Trichilo

Maria practises in the firm’s general and commercial litigation division dealing primarily with Federal, Supreme and District Court matters.

Maria has been and continues to be involved in large scale Federal Court and Supreme Court litigation and practises in the areas of intellectual property law, banking and finance law, corporations law, property law and trade practices law.

Maria’s client base comprises international and local corporations, businesses and individuals.

Maria graduated with first class honours from the University of Notre Dame in 2003. During her time at the University of Notre Dame, Maria was the recipient of the Vice Chancellors medal 2002 for the highest student under graduate in that year (across all faculties), and the recipient of the John Ralph Prize for the most outstanding under graduate in the graduating class of 2003 (across all faculties). Maria was also awarded the inaugural Russell Roberts Award for top student in International and Comparative Law.

Maria became and Associate of the firm on 31 October 2006.

Greg Milner

Greg practises in the property and commercial law division of the firm. Greg advises and represents public and private companies, property developers, charitable institutions, franchisors and individuals in a broad range of commercial matters.

Greg's primary areas of expertise include contractual disputes, property law, commercial and corporate advice, leasing, intellectual property and franchising. Greg also has experience in wills, strata title, trade practices law and a range of litigious matters.

Greg holds a Bachelor of Laws (with distinction) and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia. Greg joined Karp Steedman Ross-Adjie in July 2006 and was appointed an Associate in October 2006.

Outside of the office, Greg enjoys a range of activities including scuba diving, working out at the gym, relaxing on the beach and spending time with friends and loved ones. His other interests include politics, movies and the occasional paintball skirmish.

Chris Hall

Chris commenced as an articled clerk with the firm in January 2006 and has gained significant experience in both commercial and commercial litigation matters and proved himself to be a valuable addition to our team. Since being admitted to practise as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Western Australia in February 2007, Chris has worked primarily in the firm’s commercial team.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Murdoch University and a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Edith Cowan University, and was formerly employed as an operating room registered nurse at St John of God Hospital, Subiaco, specialising in neurosurgery.

Chris has a number of diverse interests outside of the law including travelling, mountain-biking and scuba-diving which compliments his ability to relate to and identify both legal and practical solutions for clients.
